Target Information
ERN1 (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1) is a serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease that functions as a sensor of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It initiates the unfolded protein response by splicing XBP1 mRNA, converting it into a potent transcriptional activator.
IRE1 is essential for cell viability under ER stress conditions and plays a critical role in extraembryonic cells necessary for fetal development.
