Target Information
ERN1 serine/threonine kinase (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1) is a human homologue of the yeast Ire1 gene product, possessing intrinsic kinase and endoribonuclease activity. It plays an essential role in ER-based stress signaling by sensing unfolded proteins and initiating the unfolded protein response (UPR) through XBP1 mRNA splicing. ERN1 is critical for fetal viability and cellular survival under stress conditions that cause unfolded protein accumulation in the ER.
