Target Information

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx includes six members grouped into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx. Except for Prx VI (1-Cys subgroup), the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity, using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as the reducing system. Mammalian Prxs (20–30 kDa) vary in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
