Target Information

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a family of peroxidases involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins (approximately 50 isoforms) contain active site cysteine residues and exhibit thiol-specific antioxidant activity.
Mammalian Prxs are classified into:

• Typical 2-Cys Prx
• Atypical 2-Cys Prx
• 1-Cys Prx

Except for Prx VI (1-Cys subgroup), other 2-Cys Prxs show thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH.
Mammalian Prxs have molecular sizes of 20–30 kDa and distinct subcellular localizations:

• Prx I, II, VI: Cytosol
• Prx III: Mitochondria
• Prx IV: Endoplasmic reticulum and secretion
• Prx V: Peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
