The monoclonal antibody eBio84-3C1 reacts with CD43, also known as leukosialin, galactoglycoprotein, and sialophorin.
CD43 is a sialomucin that can have both adhesive and anti-adhesive functions. It is expressed on most leukocytes except resting B lymphocytes.
Proteolytic processing upon activation decreases surface expression. CD43 plays a role in the activation of T cells, B cells, NK cells, and monocytes.
Its counter-receptor is CD169/SIGLEC-1, expressed on macrophages.

This eBio84-3C1 (84-3C1) antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of human peripheral blood monocytes.
Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (in 100 µL final volume).
Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD43 (leukosialin, sialophorin) is a transmembrane mucin-like protein with high negative charge, expressed on most hematopoietic cells.
It contributes to a repulsive barrier interfering with cellular adhesion but can also promote leukocyte aggregation.
Through interaction with actin-binding proteins ezrin and moesin, CD43 regulates T-cell morphology and cell-cell interactions during lymphocyte traffic.
CD43 signaling enhances LFA-1 adhesiveness while counteracting LFA-1 induction via other receptors.
Expression of CD43 induces functionally active tumor suppressor p53 protein, but in cases of p53 and ARF deficiency, CD43 promotes tumor proliferation and viability.
CD43 is an important modulator of leukocyte function.
Diseases associated with CD43 dysfunction include Wiscott-Aldrich Syndrome and Adenoid Basal Cell Carcinoma.
