Mouse anti-Sheep CD8 antibody, clone 38.65 recognizes the ovine CD8 cell surface antigen, expressed by the cytotoxic/suppressor subset of T lymphocytes.


Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family.
It plays an integral role in signal transduction and T cell differentiation and activation.
CD8 is predominantly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer (CD8α/CD8β) acting as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules.
It is also found on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8α homodimers.
Upon MHC-I/peptide complex binding, CD8 recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production and activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs).
Activated CTLs are essential for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naïve CD8⁺ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
