Product Specific Information

Epitope sequence: EQKLISEEDL, located in amino acids 410–419 of human c-Myc protein.

Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in tumor cells and plays critical roles in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with regulation of proliferation and cell cycle. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.

The c-Myc oncogene (p62 c-Myc) regulates normal cellular growth and differentiation; deregulated expression induces apoptosis in various cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize Myc-tagged fusion proteins at either N- or C-termini.

Amplification of c-Myc is observed in multiple human cancers, including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. N-Myc amplification occurs in neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus (chromosome 8) to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders.

Aberrant c-Myc expression is found in tumors of colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, pulmonary, prostatic, thyroid, and hematopoietic origins.
