Target Information
SPACA3 (Sperm Acrosome Associated 3), also known as sperm lysozyme-like protein 1 (LYC3), SPRASA, or LYZL3, is a 215 amino acid protein involved in sperm-egg plasma membrane adhesion and fusion during fertilization.
It is expressed in testis, placenta, and epididymis, and exists as two isoforms:
- Isoform 1: Single-pass type II membrane protein of the sperm acrosome
- Isoform 2: Secreted protein
SPACA3 is identified as a novel cancer/testis antigen capable of eliciting B-cell immune responses in cancer patients, making it a potential immunotherapy target.
The processed form has no detectable bacteriolytic activity in vitro.
