Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are families of serine/threonine protein kinases found in all eukaryotes.
CKI family members (α, γ, ε, δ) are involved in cytoplasmic and nuclear regulation, including DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically forms a tetrameric complex (α2β2 or αα′β2), with the β subunit regulating the α catalytic subunit.
CKII phosphorylates over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and enzymes involved in DNA metabolism.
