Target Information

NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) is a multiprotein complex located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It plays a key role in energy metabolism by transferring electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, coupled with proton translocation. Human complex I consists of 41 subunits, with several encoded by mitochondrial genes (subunits 1–7) and others by nuclear genes. NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4L (ND4L) is part of the hydrophobic fragment of Complex I. Mutations in ND4 are linked to Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, a rare disorder causing loss of central vision.
