Target Information

BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a neurotrophin family member synthesized as pre-proBDNF, cleaved to proBDNF, and further processed to the mature 14 kDa protein. Both proBDNF and mature BDNF are biologically active and secreted in synaptic vesicles.
BDNF is widely expressed in the CNS, promoting neuronal survival and differentiation, and plays key roles in memory formation and synaptic regulation. It signals primarily through the TrkB receptor and also interacts with the p75-NTR receptor. Reduced BDNF expression is associated with Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases, and it may influence stress response and mood regulation.
