Cathelicidin 계열은 보존된 전구 펩타이드 서열을 가지며, 인간과 동물의 상피 조직 및 일부 골수 세포에서 발견됩니다.
LL-37/hCAP-18은 인간에서 유일한 Cathelicidin으로, 염증성 및 상피 세포에서 발현됩니다.
이 단백질은 피부의 세균 감염 방어에 필수적이며, 내독소 중화, 혈관신생, 상처 치유, 호중구 및 비만세포 유주 유도 등 선천적·적응 면역 조절에도 관여합니다.
