Target Information

NFkB is a nuclear transcription factor activated by various extra- and intracellular stimuli such as cytokines, UV radiation, stress, injury, and microbial products. It regulates cellular processes including growth, differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation.

NFKB1 (p50) is a 50 kDa functional subunit of NF-kB and a member of the Rel protein family. It is synthesized as a p105 precursor containing an N-terminal RHD region with nuclear localization signal, DNA-binding, and dimerization domains. NFKB1 (p50) forms homodimers or heterodimers with p65, constituting the functional NFkB complex. This complex is primarily cytoplasmic in an inactive state bound to I-kappa-B. Upon phosphorylation of I-kappa-B, NFkB translocates to the nucleus to modulate gene expression. Phosphorylation of p50 at Ser-337 enhances DNA-binding efficiency. NFkB has been implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hematogenic cancer metastasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
