Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays critical roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK regulates c-Myc function in proliferation and cell cycle control.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated c-Myc expression induces apoptosis in different cell types.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc tags fused to target proteins.
Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is associated with various human cancers, including lung, breast, colon carcinomas, and Burkitt’s lymphoma.
