Target Information
WIBG is a key regulator of the exon junction complex (EJC), a multiprotein complex that associates upstream of exon-exon junctions on mRNAs. It serves as a positional landmark for post-transcriptional processes such as mRNA export, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), and translation. WIBG acts as an EJC disassembly factor, facilitating translation-dependent EJC removal and recycling. It may bind RNA; however, the biological relevance remains unclear. [UniProt]
