Target Information
Caspases are cysteine proteases, expressed as inactive precursors, that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. Caspases cleave after aspartic acid residues and are classified as initiators (e.g., Caspase-8, Caspase-9) or effectors (e.g., Caspase-3, Caspase-7). Initiator caspases activate effector caspases, leading to cell collapse during apoptosis.
