Target Information

Somatostatin is a multifunctional protein regulating exocrine and endocrine secretion, neurotransmission, and neuronal modulation. These functions are mediated by somatostatin receptors (GPCR family).
SSTR5, a 364 amino acid receptor subtype, is predominantly expressed in the pituitary and hypothalamus. It possesses seven transmembrane regions and can form homo- and heterodimers (e.g., with SSTR1). Although its precise function remains unclear, SSTR5 is known to complement SSTR2 in ACTH secretion regulation. Polymorphisms in the SSTR5 gene have been associated with acromegaly.
