Target Information
KCNQs are members of the voltage-dependent non-inactivating potassium channel family.
Currently, five known KCNQs (KCNQ1–5) are found in the central nervous system.
KCNQ2 and KCNQ3 are important in M-current activation and form heteromultimers that enhance M-current.
Inhibition of M-current regulates neuronal excitability and synaptic responsiveness.
Genetic mutations in these proteins are associated with benign familial neonatal convulsions (BFNC), deafness, neuropathic pain, and epilepsy.
