PA1-051 detects leptin from human, mouse, sheep, and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry experiments.
By Western blot, this antibody detects an ~16 kDa protein representing leptin from 3T3-L1 cell extract.
Immunohistochemical staining of leptin in sheep brain with PA1-051 results in staining of the ventromedial hypothalamus.

The PA1-051 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues Q(25) K V Q D D T K T L I K T I V T R I N D(44) of mouse Leptin.
This sequence is completely conserved between mouse and bovine.

Target Information

Leptin is a 167-amino-acid protein hormone involved in regulating body weight, metabolism, and reproductive function.
It is approximately 16 kDa and encoded by the obese (ob) gene.
Predominantly expressed by adipocytes, leptin also appears in the stomach epithelium and placenta.
Leptin receptors are highly expressed in hypothalamic regions that regulate hunger and energy expenditure, as well as in T lymphocytes and vascular endothelial cells.

Leptin influences food intake, energy expenditure, adiposity, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis, wound healing, inflammation, immune responses, pubertal development, and fetal growth.
It has been studied in relation to obesity, anorexia nervosa, insulin resistance, and hypertension.
Leptin also regulates thermogenesis and fatty acid oxidation enzymes.
Defects in leptin production can cause severe hereditary obesity in rodents and humans.
