Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays a key role in lipid metabolism and is a constituent of various plasma lipoprotein particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, and is abundant in interstitial fluids, where it helps redistribute cholesterol between cells. Apo E also contributes to the formation of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons.
The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
