Target Information
MELK (Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase) is a serine/threonine kinase related to the AMPK family, involved in cell cycle regulation.
It is overexpressed in various cancers and considered a potential therapeutic target.
MELK phosphorylates multiple substrates including BCL2L14, CDC25B, MAP3K5/ASK1, and ZNF622, influencing apoptosis, cell proliferation, and carcinogenesis.
It also plays roles in neural progenitor proliferation and spliceosome regulation during mitosis.
