Target Information
MEF2C is a transcription activator that binds to the MEF2 element found in regulatory regions of many muscle-specific genes.
It controls cardiac morphogenesis and myogenesis, and is involved in vascular development.
MEF2C plays an essential role in hippocampal-dependent learning and memory by regulating excitatory synapses and synaptic transmission.
It is crucial for neuronal development, megakaryocyte and platelet formation, and B-cell survival and proliferation.
Also involved in neurogenesis and cortical architecture development. Isoforms 3 and 4, lacking the repressor domain, are more active than isoforms 1 and 2.
