MA1-40079 detects ER-MP58, an antigen present on all mouse macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) responsive cells.
It has been successfully used in immunohistochemistry (frozen), ELISA, and flow cytometry applications with a typical starting dilution of 1:50.

This antibody recognizes an antigen expressed on all M-CSF-responsive cells in bone marrow, including early myeloid progenitors and most myeloid precursors. The antigen is expressed across a broad developmental range from macrophage precursor to monocytic level and also on granulocytes. Expression is rapidly lost upon maturation beyond the monocytic stage and disappears during macrophage differentiation.
The antigen is distinct from commonly used myeloid markers such as Mac-1, F4/80, and Gr-1.

Target Information

M-CSF (Macrophage colony-stimulating factor, CSF-1) is essential for proliferation and differentiation of monocytes, macrophages, and osteoclast progenitors. It also induces VEGF secretion by macrophages, promoting mobilization of endothelial progenitor cells and neovascularization.

M-CSF exists in multiple bioactive isoforms differing in potency and stability. The full-length protein is membrane-spanning, expressed on the cell surface or processed into secreted forms. It forms a disulfide-bonded homodimer and may be glycosylated or modified as a proteoglycan.

Binding of M-CSF to its receptor c-Fms (CSF-1R or CD115) triggers receptor dimerization, internalization, and degradation. Functionally, M-CSF stimulates differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into monocyte-macrophage populations. Human M-CSF shows activity on mouse cells, but mouse CSF does not act on human cells.
