Target Information
Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) is a 125 kDa non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase that acts as a substrate for Src and plays a key role in integrin signaling. It regulates cell spreading, differentiation, migration, and cell cycle progression. FAK localizes to focal adhesions where cells attach to the extracellular matrix via integrin receptors. Tyrosine phosphorylation of FAK increases upon integrin engagement with fibronectin, promoting association with Grb2 and c-Src, and activation of ERK2 MAP kinase. Tyr925 has been identified as a Grb2 SH2 domain binding site. Multiple transcript variants exist for the FAK gene.
