Target Information

MAP2K2 (MEK2) is a dual specificity serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in mitogen growth factor signal transduction.
Mitogen activated protein kinase 2 (MEK2 or MAPKK2) belongs to a family of tyrosine/threonine protein kinases that activate ERK1/2 and MAPK enzymes by phosphorylating residues within the TEY motif in the activation loop.
MEK1 and MEK2 are activated by dual phosphorylation on serine 218 and 222 in the activation loop.
Threonine 292 of MEK1 is phosphorylated by ERK2, providing a negative feedback regulation mechanism by suppressing MEK1 activation.
