Target Information

This receptor is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium to flow more readily into the cell than out. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the voltage range of channel opening shifts positively.
Inward rectification results mainly from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
These channels can be blocked by extracellular barium.
KCNJ11 forms part of the ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP), and can associate with ABCC9 to form cardiac and smooth muscle-type KATP channels.
KCNJ11 forms the channel pore, while ABCC9 is required for activation and regulation.
