Target Information

The SMN complex catalyzes the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential components of the spliceosome.
It plays a critical role in pre-mRNA splicing.
Most spliceosomal snRNPs contain a common set of Sm proteins (SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF, SNRPG) that form a heptameric ring on the Sm site of small nuclear RNA.
In the cytosol, Sm proteins are held in an inactive 6S pICln-Sm complex by the chaperone CLNS1A.
The SMN complex dissociates CLNS1A and transfers Sm proteins to an SMN-Sm complex, initiating snRNP assembly and nuclear transport.
