Target Information
The STAT5 alpha/beta proteins are transcription factors that become phosphorylated in response to cytokines and growth factors. Upon activation, they form dimers that translocate to the nucleus to regulate gene expression. These proteins mediate responses to IL-2, IL-3, IL-7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin, and various growth hormones. Constitutive activation due to TEL/JAK2 fusion is linked to tumorigenesis in myeloma and lymphoma. The mouse homolog induces BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) expression, indicating an anti-apoptotic role.
