Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are essential for maintaining neuronal caliber. They consist mainly of three subunits: NF-L (light), NF-M (medium), and NF-H (heavy).
- NF-L (Neurofilament Light): Low molecular weight subunit (~70 kDa)
- NF-M (Neurofilament Medium): Intermediate molecular weight
- NF-H (Neurofilament Heavy): High molecular weight subunit (180–220 kDa, species-dependent)
The expression of these neuronal intermediate filament proteins is both tissue-specific and developmentally regulated.
