• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
• For formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 min.
• Predicted to show broad reactivity.

Target Information

Smooth Muscle Actin belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved and play roles in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have been identified:

• Alpha actin: major component of the contractile apparatus
• Beta and gamma actins: involved in cell motility regulation

Smooth muscle actin, an alpha actin, is found in skeletal muscle and smooth muscle vessel walls, gut wall, myometrium, and myoepithelial cells of breast and salivary glands.
Defects in the smooth muscle actin gene cause familial thoracic aortic aneurysm type 6.
Actin isoforms differ slightly in their N-terminus and are highly conserved in higher vertebrates.
Alpha-smooth muscle actin is abundant in vascular and visceral smooth muscle cells and appears in stress fibers of fibroblastic cells during wound healing and fibrocontractive diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been identified.
