Product Specific Information

This 4SM95 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by thymocytes, mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells and plays a critical role in T cell development and function. In T cells, CD4 associates with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck through its cytoplasmic tail.

The 4SM95 monoclonal antibody is not recommended for immunohistochemistry of frozen mouse tissue. For detection of mouse CD4 in frozen tissue, refer to alternate products Anti-Mouse CD4 Purified (Product #14-0041 and 14-0042).

Applications Reported: Western blotting, microscopy, and immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections.

Applications Tested:

• IHC (Paraffin): ≤5 µg/mL
• Western blot: ≤5 µg/mL (reduced mouse spleen lysate)
  Careful titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Target Information

CD4 antigen recognizes MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression occurs in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and some non-lymphoid tissues. It is involved in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
