Description:
The 24F monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD86 (B7-2), a ~90 kDa surface receptor and member of the B7 family of costimulatory molecules. CD86 is expressed by germinal center B cells and at low levels on macrophages, dendritic cells, and non-lymphoid thymic cells. Its expression is upregulated on B cells by various stimuli including LPS. CD86 interacts with T-cell surface molecules CD28 and CD152 (CTLA-4), playing a critical role in T-B cell crosstalk, T cell costimulation, autoantibody production, and Th2-mediated Ig production.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on resting and activated rat splenocytes at ≤0.25 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Optimal titration recommended.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (along with CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in T-cell activation during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation can induce tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It binds CD28 (activating T-cells) and CTLA-4 (inhibiting T-cell activation). Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms. CD86 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
