Target Information
Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a 20 kDa protein belonging to the IL-6 receptor family. It binds to a heterodimeric receptor composed of gp190 (LIFR) and gp130 subunits. LIF is expressed in various tissues including thymus, lung, and neuronal tissue. Its expression is up-regulated by cytokines such as TNFα and IL-17, and elevated LIF levels are associated with rheumatoid arthritis, neural injury, systemic inflammation, and tuberculosis.
LIF inhibits embryonic stem cell differentiation and supports stem cell self-renewal. Human and mouse LIF share 79% sequence homology and exhibit cross-species activity, though stem cell differentiation inhibition is mouse-specific.
