Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a vital role in brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been found in tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangement is the most common genetic alteration, creating a fusion gene consisting of the ALK gene and the nucleophosmin gene (NPM-ALK).
The product of the NPM-ALK fusion gene is oncogenic.
ALK is a novel receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane domain and extracellular domain, absent in the NPM-ALK product.
ALK shows the greatest sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development.
