Target Information

Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been found in tumors such as:

• Anaplastic large cell lymphoma
• Neuroblastoma
• Non-small cell lung cancer

Chromosomal rearrangement is the most common genetic alteration, creating a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and nucleophosmin (NPM, chromosome 5).
The NPM-ALK fusion gene product is oncogenic.
ALK is a novel receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, absent in the NPM-ALK product.
It shows high sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in brain development, acting on specific neurons in the nervous system.
