Target Information

The CD111/Nectin-1 gene encodes an adhesion protein involved in the organization of adherens and tight junctions in epithelial and endothelial cells.
This calcium(2+)-independent cell-cell adhesion molecule belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and contains:

• Three extracellular immunoglobulin-like loops
• A single transmembrane domain
• A cytoplasmic region

It acts as a receptor for glycoprotein D of herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and pseudorabies virus, mediating viral entry into epithelial and neuronal cells.
Mutations in this gene are associated with cleft lip and palate/ectodermal dysplasia 1 syndrome and non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding proteins with distinct C-termini.
