NCSTN (Nicastrin)은 type I transmembrane glycoprotein을 암호화하는 유전자로, γ-secretase 복합체의 필수 구성요소입니다.
이 단백질은 Notch 수용체 및 β-amyloid precursor protein을 절단하며, γ-secretase 복합체 조립에 필요한 안정화 보조인자로 작용할 수 있습니다.
β-amyloid precursor protein의 절단은 Alzheimer’s disease의 주요 병리적 특징인 amyloid β peptide를 생성합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 familial acne inversa와 연관되어 있습니다.
또한, 이 유전자의 pseudogene이 염색체 21에 존재합니다.
