Target Information
Avpr2 is a precursor protein consisting of arginine vasopressin and two associated proteins, neurophysin 2 and a glycopeptide, copeptin. Arginine vasopressin is a posterior pituitary hormone synthesized in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus. It is transported to the neurohypophysis in neurosecretory vesicles, where it is stored or secreted into the bloodstream.
Avpr2 acts as a growth factor by enhancing pH regulation through acid-base transport systems. It has antidiuretic effects on the kidney, induces vasoconstriction, and can contract smooth muscle during parturition and lactation. Avpr2 is also involved in cognition, tolerance, adaptation, sexual and maternal behavior, and regulation of water excretion and cardiovascular functions. Its activity is mediated by G proteins that activate adenylate cyclase.
