Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with cytokeratin 19 (40 kDa intracellular antigen) in human tissue. Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes; it is often co-expressed with cytokeratin 7.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 is part of a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Cytokeratins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
The expression pattern of cytokeratin subtypes is used to distinguish different epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes, making it useful for identifying liver metastasis.
