Target Information
The nuclear pore complex is a massive structure that spans the nuclear envelope, regulating macromolecular transport between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Nucleoporins, including NUP214, are major components of this complex. NUP214 localizes to the cytoplasmic face of the nuclear pore and is essential for cell cycle progression and nucleocytoplasmic transport. The 3′ portion of this gene forms a fusion with the DEK gene on chromosome 6 in a t(6;9) translocation associated with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. Alternative splicing yields multiple isoforms.
