Target Information
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a family of secreted signaling molecules that can induce ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs belong to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. BMPs were originally identified by their ability to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo. BMP7 is expressed early in embryogenesis and may play a role in development. Its similarity to BMP5 and BMP6 suggests possible bone inductive activity.
