Product Specific Information

0.5 µg/mL was sufficient for detection of 100 ng purified alphaA crystallin by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat Anti-Mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary.
Detects approximately 20 kDa.
Does not cross-react with alpha B-crystallin, beta L-crystallin, beta H-crystallin, gamma-crystallin, HSP25, HSP27, or HSP47 proteins.


Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
In the lens, crystallins maintain the proper refractive index. The mammalian lens contains three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin is the largest, composed of alpha-A and alpha-B subunits, and makes up about 40% of total lens protein.
It acts as a molecular chaperone, preventing aggregation that could lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylated alpha-crystallin may serve a structural control function and play a role in protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
