Product Specific Information

The SK1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule, a 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as CD8 alpha/beta heterodimer or CD8 alpha/alpha homodimer. CD8a is expressed on most thymocytes, subsets of mature T cells, and NK cells. It binds MHC class I and associates with tyrosine kinase p56lck for T-cell development and activation.

Target Information

CD8 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that functions as a co-receptor with TCR for MHC class I molecules. It is expressed on T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells, typically as CD8α/β heterodimers or CD8α/α homodimers. Engagement with MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers Lck recruitment, leading to CTL activation and pathogen/tumor clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
