For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18) is a type I cytoskeletal protein belonging to the acidic subfamily of low molecular weight keratins. It is typically co-expressed with Cytokeratin 8 in epithelial tissues such as gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine and exocrine tissues and mesothelial cells.
Cytokeratin 18 is predominantly found in non-squamous epithelia and in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18.
Mutations in the KRT18 gene have been associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein are known.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are increasingly used for distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are valuable tools in cytopathology and flow cytometry.
