Product Specific Information
- Does not react with Chicken or Xenopus.
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95 °C, then cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) belongs to the type A (acidic) subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and pairs with cytokeratin 8. It is expressed in epithelial tissues from the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells. Cytokeratin 18 is mainly found in non-squamous epithelia and most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in the KRT18 gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified. Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns aid in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are valuable tools in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry.
