Product Specific Information

MA5-15799 targets CEA in indirect ELISA, IF, and WB applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of human CEA expressed in E. coli.
MA5-15799 detects CEA with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 77 kDa.

Target Information

CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors.
CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family, consisting of one N domain and six constant-like A (A1–A3) and B (B1–B3) domains.
Antibodies to CEA are useful for identifying metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguishing pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA is a glycoprotein tumor marker found in adenocarcinomas of endodermally derived digestive system epithelium and fetal colon.
Two subgroups—the CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins—are located within a 1.2 Mb cluster on chromosome 19, which also contains eleven pseudogenes.
Originally described as a biliary glycoprotein, CEA functions as a cell-cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia.
It mediates homophilic and heterophilic adhesion, contributing to tissue structure, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and modulation of immune responses.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all full-length forms have been defined.
