Target Information

Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that functions as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It is found in heteromeric cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock factors and immunophilins. Upon ligand binding, it translocates to the nucleus.
The receptor is expressed in the heart, including atria, ventricles, aorta, and other cardiac tissues.
Alternate splicing and promoter usage produce multiple transcript variants encoding identical or different isoforms.
Mutations in NR3C1 can cause glucocorticoid resistance.
The receptor binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity and requires a complex of chaperone proteins for ligand activation.
