Product Specific Information

This OV9A2 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD59 (Protectin), a GPI-linked membrane glycoprotein homologous to the murine Ly-6 superfamily. CD59 is expressed on all human lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, erythrocytes, and non-hematopoietic cells such as endothelial cells and neurons.
It inhibits formation of the membrane attack complex by binding complement components C8 and C9, thereby preventing cytolysis. CD59 also interacts with CD2 to modulate T cell adhesion and activation. Altered CD55 and CD59 expression has been observed in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients.

Crossblocking studies indicate that OV9A2 binds the same epitope as MEM-43.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated for flow cytometry using normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.125 µg)/test in 100 µL final volume, with 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It prevents complement-mediated cytolysis by binding C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, blocking C9 polymerization. CD59 also interacts with the C5b-8 complex, modulates T cell signaling through CD2, and contributes to lymphocyte costimulation.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
