This antibody detects endogenous levels of total Ankyrin erythroid.


Target Information

Ankyrins are a family of proteins that link integral membrane proteins to the spectrin–actin cytoskeleton, playing key roles in cell motility, activation, proliferation, contact, and maintenance of specialized membrane domains.
Multiple isoforms of ankyrin are expressed in a tissue-specific and developmentally regulated manner. Most ankyrins contain:

  • An N-terminal domain with multiple ankyrin repeats
  • A central spectrin-binding domain
  • A C-terminal regulatory domain, which is variable and less conserved

Ankyrin 1, the prototype of this family, was first discovered in erythrocytes and later found in brain and muscle. Mutations in erythrocytic ankyrin 1 are associated with approximately half of hereditary spherocytosis cases.
Complex alternative splicing in the regulatory domain produces different isoforms, including truncated muscle-specific forms from alternate promoters.
