Target Information
AMPK beta 1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits. It acts as an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. Upon metabolic stress, AMPK is activated and phosphorylates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), regulating fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis. The beta 1 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and serve as an adaptor molecule mediating complex association. Myristoylation and phosphorylation of this subunit influence enzyme activity and localization.
